What motivates you to be part of SILA?
I am interested in social and economic development and the restoration of agricultural activity through sound environmental and sustainable practices in order to invest our natural resources in the best ways available while ensuring the safety of agricultural and food products. In the Chouf region, we launched an initiative with farmers from all agricultural orientations (environmental and traditional) with the aim of improving agricultural practices. We brought them together in a safe dialogue environment to exchange experiences and concerns and present the available opportunities to support those who choose the right agricultural path (environmental, sustainable or organic). I heard about Sila and contacted karim Malak and at the second meeting with farmers, we were happy to hear from Karim and two farmers working with Sila, the mechanism for forming the Sila network and its transparent and participatory standards for evaluating products and giving certificates to farmers
I am also interested in creating a spirit of cooperation and solidarity among farmers of different orientations, instead of competition that weakens the ability to confront unjust laws (the law on the trade and exchange of seeds that is being studied). I would love to see the growth of the environmental agricultural sector and the growth of markets for environmental products locally, which ensures a safe standard of living for farmers and safe agricultural and food products for the health of consumers and citizens. And Iwould like to see our agricultural products sold in foreign markets without reservation, with appreciation, and with satisfactory returns.
I felt belonging to Sila before applying and I am happy to join this network and do my best to widen its impact and bring many farmers as possible into it.
